Eko STEM Summer Holiday Clubs

What is a STEM Summer Holiday Club?

A new project for the Inspire and Attract team! The I&A’s objective is to create fun and meaningful connection between STEM and young students who are from underrepresented groups within the sector, in hope that eventually, the students will become STEM professionals later in life. After a successful year of the Delivery Partner scheme, which involved Delivery Partners going into schools (who aren’t often provided with these opportunities) to deliver fun and insightful STEM sessions, it’s now finalised that a summer holiday club will now take place in August, to carry on these sessions, for students who have been inspired by the activities. The aim of the club is to further the interest of these students, so they can have free access to it all year round if they’d like, so the fun doesn’t stop when the academic year does.

Who is the STEM Summer Holiday Club for?

The Club is for students aged 8-14 who are from underrepresented groups within the sector. These underrepresented groups are found to have less opportunities within STEM careers, so it’s our aim to address this issue! Some of the groups that we are targeting are Free School Meal (FSM) students, Black and Ethnic Minority (BME) students, Girls and students with a disability. This being said, we’re not going to turn enthusiastic children away for not being in one of these groups – we want to make an inclusive and fun environment for our Eko students to learn.

Who is running the Club and when/where is it taking place?

This year, we’ve had 4 incredible Delivery Partners host activities across the UK and we’re delighted the Exa Networks can carry this great work on throughout the summer. Exa have been delivering for us all year in the South-East, engaging with over 2000 students with fun STEM work. Exa will be hosting the club in the South-West however for this contract, though the exact location is TBC. The Summer Holiday Club will be taking place early August for 2 weeks (10 working days), dates will be updated once confirmed with the location.
